Its taken me a few days to really want to sit down and reflect on what happened last week, but I wanted to add my thoughts and calls to action to those already shared by Charlie and Jamie!
Last Thursday, at The Addington Golf Club, my good friend John was about to putt for par on the 4th when out of nowhere he had collapsed on the floor, suffering from a Cardiac Arrest. This is where the team mentality kicked in; with swift and heroic actions, Charlie and I took it in turns to administer CPR, Jamie was on the phone to the emergency services and my voice was booming ‘DeFib! DeFib!’ across the course.
Jon and Matty, from The Addington Golf Club, arrived promptly with the defibrillator from the clubhouse, taking over CPR and administering the defibrillator! This amazing piece of kit, was quickly attached to our friend, it checked his heart and sent a shock into him with the instruction to continue CPR after, after about 30 seconds, John started to come back round. As the paramedics arrived and took over checks and eventually John was stable and ready to travel to hospital to be in the hands of the professionals.
Currently John is still in hospital but is on the road to recovery. My friend is a very lucky man, I very much believe he was in the right place, at the right time, with the right people.
Last year, to mark the 5th anniversary of Justins passing, Charlie and the Justin Edinburgh 3 Foundation hosted a day for people to learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Attending this was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time. With the skills that Charlie gave me, I felt confident to help in this medical emergency.

This is not a post to say anything other than PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use this post as a catalyst to go and learn CPR & how to use a Defibrillator (you never know when you might need this skill)… but also, if it hadn’t have been for The Addington having a defibrillator available, this story would still not have such a positive outcome, so please join us in campaigning for Justins Law, to have defibrillators in every health and leisure facility in the UK.
Because of our quick reaction and the availability of a defibrillator; a family still has their husband / father / grandfather and we still have our friend.
Please contact the www.JE3Foundation.com for details on how to get on a course or to sign the petition!
Please share this far and wide, you never know, it might just save your loved ones!
Many thanks,
Darren
